Welcome back to school Intro to Art students. Your first two assignments are to read the class syllabus with your parents. After you have read the syllabus, sign the compliance with your parents and bring back to school by Wed. You will also need to start to gather all the supplies you will need to create the awesome art.
Supply List:
2 Boxes of tissues
1 Pencil sharpener
1 Package of #2 Pencils
1 Eraser
1 12” Ruler
1 Colored pencil set (12 or more colors)
2 Black fine point sharpie pens - Sharpie markers will work, but they bleed unlike the sharpie pens
1 Sketch book - 9x12 non lined paper is ideal, but for students on a budget a smaller or lined paper book will work for drawing and note taking.
Please bring these supplies to class by Friday.
Your 2nd assignment is your first studio art project. We will begin that this week. Start to think of what you are passionate about like a hobby, favorite person, hero, place you visited this summer, animal or pet. Once you selected one thing that you would like to capture on paper, think of what media you feel you are most confident with. For some they feel like they can draw well with a pencil, for others maybe markers or sharpies are what they feel they know how to use best. Pick the medium that you feel you know best! Mr. Lohmeier will be giving you the project paper later this week, but you can start brainstorming and sketching your composition. Lets say you want to draw the beach where you visited this past summer. What details will you include in your drawing? Birds, sandcastles, surfboarders, waves, sand, lots of sand, rocks, seashells, kids, trash, more sand, bright neon shovels, pelicans, kids standing with ice cream cone, hot dogs, sun bathers, volleyball, kites...and the list goes on. So even if you feel like you can't draw very well, that's ok. You will learn how to draw well, but I can not help you become a better artist until I assess what your drawing level is at. But whether you already know how to draw realistically, or are good at Manga Cartooning, or are still drawing stick figures, you can add in all those little details and show effort.
Here are some examples some creative examples of artwork with different subject matter and mediums to motivate you.
